Goodnight my darlin’, it’s time to go (doo doo doo doo doo)…
Alas, we’ve come to the final series in EATS! (at least for this week! )… Aww… there, there. Don’t worry *hug* There’ll be more…
Before I get even sillier, let’s get this party started… (RIGHT)!
First stop is Kountry Style Kitchen in Kapaa for breakfast. Get here early as it’s crowded. I ordered my favorite (hash and eggs) and the lady got the garden omelette. Both came with their scrumptious cornbread. Check it out yo:
KSK’s Garden Omelette - $9.75
(Filled with fresh mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, and grated cheddar cheese. All omelettes include a choice of hash brown or rice, corn bread or wheat/white toast and jelly.)
That evening, we stayed at Princeville (mahaloz for the upgrade guys!) so of course we had to hit up the cute little city below called Hanalei. We settled on Postcards Cafe. The lady liked it there (and so did I for that matter… at least for the atmosphere), but my dish was ridiculously too miniscule, especially for the price!
Seafood Sorrento - $24
A divine seafood pasta with fish, shrimp and scallops, oven-dried tomatoes, braised organic greens, goat cheese, red onions and garlic, sauteed in a light Chardonnay sauce.
Saffron Risotto - $25
A colorfully divine rice dish with shrimp, mussels, scallops, mushrooms, and pesto, perfumed with white truffle oil.
On our last day on the north shore, we headed to the popular Kalypso for breakfast. Eggs Benedict and, of course, an Acai Bowl were on the menu for us that morning…
Hope you’ve enjoyed this series of EATS!… Send me some feedback below and let a brutha know what you like and don’t like about what I blog about please. I’m still trying to figgah out what ya’ll want me to do with this little space on the Internet and how I can make it better/more interesting for ya. Shoots!
Part 2 in our Kauaian Style EATS segment leads us to Kauai Chocolate, aboard Holoholo Charters, and Hamura’s Saimin. Let’s get on it!
While waiting to board our sunset catamaran tour, we stopped at Kauai Chocolate Company near Port Allen for a lil’ snack. I’m not a big sweets person, but the immense chocolate smell that enters your nasal passages when you walk in the door hypnotizes you.
Then it was “all aboard” Holoholo Charters for the Na Pali Coast Sunset tour. Motion sickness almost got the best of me, but a couple of beers and a little mental toughness allowed me to pull through and enjoy their “heavy pupus” meal.
What’s a trip to Kauai without mentioning the ever-popular Hamura’s Saimin? Not exactly my favorite, but still a decent place to grab a (reasonably) quick bite…
Well, that’s it for part 2. Tune in tomorrow for “Where in Hawaii” Wednesday and then Thursday for the final part (part 3) of this Kauai EATS series.
On another related note, Congratulations to fellow co-worker Wayne Yamada’s adorable daughter Carly, who was honored at this past weekend’s dedication for the bronze, life-sized statue of Spark Matsunaga in Hanapepe. The statue includes the late Matsunaga with a little girl (Carly)!
OK, I’ve got issues. 427 pictures and videos in just 4 short days on Kauai… I need help.
But my issues = your gain cause we’ll get to embark on the second adventure of EATS (Ed Ate Tasty Stuffs)! Ya ready?
So right off the bat, we head southwest towards Kalaheo. We first stop by a vendor’s office to drop off some famous Apple Napples from Zippy’s, then kill time in the area by going on a mini hike at _____________ park and the nearby town of ________________. Crud! Sorry folks… I forgot that if I name these places, a future edition of “Where in Hawaii” would be ruined. LOL! Just use your imagination with me won’tcha?
In any case, we head back to Kalaheo and arrive at a favorite of many: Brick Oven Pizza, some of the best damn pizza you’ll ever eat.
We ordered the popular “Super Pizza” with garlic butter crust and all the fixin’s. What an awesome start to our vacay.
*skipping boring details of our trip*
For our next meal, we decided to go to BarbieQ!’s suggested Blossoming Lotus in Kapaa. I’ve heard a lot about this place (heck, they’ve even won numerous awards), but have never gone because, well, frankly, I’m a meatatarian (yes dudes, it’s a vegan joint). The lady was interested in checking it out, so we did.
For lunch the next day, we stopped over at Garden Island Barbecue & Chinese Restaurant in Lihue. This was suggested many times by the readers of my Kau Kau Kauai series, as well as BarbieQ! again right here, so there is where we had to be.
Since this Wednesday will be “Where in Hawaii” Wednesday (based out of Kauai), I’ll make the posts for this whole week Kauai related. Smaht chyeah?
EATS! for Tuesday will include Kauai Chocolate, pupus aboard Holoholo Charters and Hamura’s Saimin, and Thursday we’ll cover Kountry Style Kitchen, Postcards Cafe, and Kalypso. Then, we’ll round it all off on Friday with a Kauai-related Fave Five Friday post. Sound like fun? Sound off below won’tcha?
I know I know… It’s supposed to be Where in Hawaii Wednesday, but travel plans have changed things a bit for us this week. So sorry ah.
Like Biggie Smalls, I’m going going back back to Cali Cali Kauai Kauai (or LL Cool J’s Going Back to Cali, Cali, Cali, for you old schoolers ) from tomorrow and wanted to get some advice from you Kauai pros out there. Whether you travel there often, know a lot about there or are from there, holla atcho boy and tell a brutha where to go. I’ll be checking in on this blog during my trip so send some good kine, spontaneous fun and I’ll go check um out if can.
I’ve been, many times before (see my Kau Kau Kauai series here: Part I, Part II and Part III), but there’s always something fun and new to discover right? I’m particularly interested in EATS and fun kine activities, so lemme have it won’tcha?
P.S. You’ve wanted a challenge… Next week’s “Where in Hawaii” photo may very well be coming from the Garden Isle itself. Muhahaha!
Oh yeah, here’s the answer from last week’s contest. Congrats to kako mochi for the correct guess!
P.P.S. Don’t forget to support our boys from Waipio, who will be participating in the Little League World Series against Shelton National, Connecticut, starting this Friday at 12PM noon on ESPN2 (Oceanic Digital Channel 0224 of ESPN2 HD on 1224)!
Much love to C to tha G for this one, aka Chicken Grease. It’s a good one, even though I’m not sure if I can even think of 5 for myself. Haha! Anyway, how about it? Let’s celebrate Fave Five Friday together by posting your ”Guilty Pleasures” list below! Holla!
The Hills - the future brother in law gives me heat for watching this with the lady and his gf (while giggling in our pjs), but it’s pretty addicting now that I know the story behind these peeps. Haha!
Flavor of Love - this show is such utter nonsense, but I love it! It’s sad/depressing that he (supposedly) won’t be doing any more.
Toppo - you know that stick like snack from Japan filled with chocolate in the middle? Mmmmm!
Dixie Chicks - I actually dig on country music in general. Yee haw!
Boxer Briefs - Not even sure if this counts as a guilty pleasure, but cut me some slack, I’m reaching here. Hehe! Anyway, no to boxers and a hella no to tighty whiteys (sp?), so where better to settle than in between? Comfort with support. Loves it!
Well, there you have it. Way more of me than you cared to know. Don’t leave me hangin’ and make me look like the only crazy one out thurr. Spill the beans yo!
P.S. In other news, ex porn queen Jenna Jameson is reportedly preggers from boyfriend and MMA fighter Tito Ortiz. I’ll bite my tongue and leave the smart comments to you folks… Also, Ortiz has reportedly signed with Affliction and may be on their October card FYI. Thoughts?
