MLB Home Run Derby Today!
July 14th, 2008 by World Wide EdMarking the halfway point to the Major League Baseball 2008 season, the MLB All-Star festivities’ popular home run derby contest kicks off today at 2PM Hawaii Standard Time on ESPN. Sponsored by State Farm, the battle of the (long) bombers, like the All-Star Game itself, takes place at historic Yankee Stadium, the last time ever before the new Yankee Stadium becomes the home of the New York Yankees. The 8 participants (four from each league) this year are:
National League
- Lance Berkman, Houston Astros - 1B
- Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers - LF
- Dan Uggla, Florida Marlins - 2B
- Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies - 2B
American League
- Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers - CF
- Evan Longoria, Tampa Bay Rays - 3B
- Justin Morneau, Minnesota Twins - 1B
- Grady Sizemore, Cleveland Indians - CF
Talk to me!
Who you rootin’ for? Even though he’s not one of the biggest players of the bunch, as a Phillies fan, I gotta go with my boy Chase Utley. My other picks are Lance Berkman (experience) and Josh Hamilton (bruddah is huge!). Tune in to see why Baseball is one of the most exciting sports on earth.

Good morning, Ed!
Hoo-hoo, man, I NEED to see that Conseco knock out. You know, I figured it woulda’ ended much like that last Kimbo Slice matchup, but, I’ll take the knockout (well, not me, actually, of course, heh).
I just LOVE watching MLB all-star game. I’m never not impressed with who is in it. Some true blue sports fans (I can’t say I’m that — I don’t own a single jersey or poster on my wall, and I must needs refer to the Internet to quote stats) write this game off, but, I love it. I love the competition. In medias res is how an all-star game s/b played, not at the bottom END of the season (i.e., Pro-Bowl), right where playahs are hating on each other, can fare ‘gainst each other hatefully and such. All kidding aside, I think the competition’s right there.
If I had to root for somebody, it’d be Longoria as I am a proud Tampa Bay Rays freshly new bandwagoner.
Have a nice day, all . . . it’s “The Dark Knight” week!!!!!

Ryan Braun will win this event fo sho. That guy has been on a tear since being called up last year.

As one of the few true Rays fans, I hope Longoria will put on a show. Realistically, I think the lefties have a better shot at winning it because of the dimensions of Yankee stadium favor lefties at little more. If I had to choose, I’ll take Hamilton. He has a sweet swing.

‘Sup Ed,
I’m going with Ryan Braun as well…

Heh, oh, man. Mercy, God in heaven.
Oh, well. I suppose that’s ONE way of getting kicked off the Mitchell Report by default.
