Kendall Grove Looks Impressive In Win Over Evan Tanner

June 23rd, 2008 by World Wide Ed

Local boy Kendall Grove looked impressive in his decision win over former UFC Middleweight champion Evan Tanner in Saturday night’s Ultimate Fighter Team Rampage vs. Team Forrest Finale show. Tanner looked old and defeated while the Maui native was active and aggressive. After the fight, Grove announced that he is opening a gym in Maui with friend (and fighter) Troy “Rude Boy” Mandaloniz. Good to see local boys giving back (following in the footsteps of BJ Penn on the Big Island and Egan Inoue on Oahu).

On the same card, Amir Sadollah did the unthinkable and caught favored CB Dollaway again with an armbar, as Dollaway ridiculously denied tapping. I’m so stoked for Amir! He’s such a humble, grounded (and funny) guy. I hope he does well in his MMA career. Click here for the results of the rest of the card.

In other news, there were two big losses this weekend due to heart complications: Kauai Mayor Bryan Baptiste died of an apparent cardiac arrest, and legendary comedian George Carlin died of heart failure. R.I.P. Baptiste and Carlin!

Talk to me!
* What’s next for Grove?
* Is Tanner’s career over?
* Think Sadollah has a bright future?
* Post your condolences for Bryan Baptiste and/or George Carlin.

    I knew Tanner was going to lose as soon as he walked into the ring. He just looked like a man who was tired of everything. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the local boy won. IMUA!)

    The Kauai mayor and George Carlin passing away should serve as a reminder that no one is immortal and that the time to start taking care of our bodies is now, and not when we reach Medicare age. RIP.

    Yea, you could totally tell that Tanner was a bit “had it”, and those knees from Kendall was mean!

    Although Sadollah won, I think he’s still got a long way to go to compete with the big boys. Still, great personality and super funny.

    Terrific, terrific showing by Grove. Man, every time they showed his back with that King Kamehameha tattoo, I just kept thinking that the entire nation (or at least those watching SpikeTV) saw that, as well as that mimicked final blow (which was, at least, Polynesian-based, no?) when he was declared the winner.

    Enjoyed hearing the heavy local inflection in bruddah’s voice, heh.

    I pigged out Sat’ evening. Was eating from 7p through the fight.

    Rest in peace, Bryan Baptiste and George Carlin; thanks for being down with the people.

    Yeah, those knees! Sheez! And yeah, you can’t help but root for Sadollah…

    Yeah, I like when they keeps it real like dat.

    btw, I think Grove “borrowed” the knee to the head (while your opponent is trying a single-leg) from Urijah Faber! haha
