Gosh!

May 15th, 2008 by World Wide Ed

Is it just me or does goofy/awkward American Idol finalist David Archuleta really not have that much more in his vocab than “Gosh!”?

Last night, the three finalists for Season 7 of American Idol (David Archuleta, David Cook, and Syesha Mercado) did the trip-back-home for the show. To me, it gives the truest insight into the character of these contestants. The phoniness of being on the show is quickly erased and replaced with real-ness back in the real world. For the most part, they all did ok. “Archie” actually seemed to have shed genuine tears when the moment caught up and overwhelmed him. I bought it. Syesha was her usual phony actress self (I didn’t buy her crying at all), while “Big” David seemed appreciative as well (her mother is what really draws me to him… I know it’s not a manly word, but she’s soooo cute the way she hugs and supports her son!). Overall the two who should’ve made it to the top 2 did: David Archuleta and David Cook. Oops, sorry for those who didn’t watch it back  yet. “Spoiler alert!” :P

I don’t know about you, but I think I’m leaning Cook on this one. David A’s voice is amazing, but I can’t picture him being a pop-star. He’s too stiff and goofy and maybe even a bit naive. Cookie is groomed and ready to go. Who you pickin’? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see eh?

On a side note, my beloved Philadelphia Phillies almost came back to steal one from the Atlanta Braves last night after trailing (by quite a bit) the entire game. It came down to local boy Shane Victorino with two on, down by 3. He unfortunately flied out, but what an exciting (almost) come back.

Talk to me:

  • Who are you rooting for to win American Idol next week?
  • Who’s your favorite team?
  • What are your plans for this wonderful Thursday? :P
  • Are you excited for another gripping episode of “Where In Hawaii is Edward Sugimoto”? ;)

I like your assessment but I like Archuleta, bad dad and all. He may not be “groomed and ready to go pop star” as in Cook but you gotta like Archuleta’s singing of ballads. I just like his youthful innocence and genuineness. I wish him luck.

Favorite baseball team? …Seattle Mariners, Ichiro fan, got to see a few of their games in Seattle.

Thursday plans? what else, stuck at work with a last minute assignment but will do some running later and maybe watch the rest of “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.”

How about a photo of an old manhole cover?

  2. GumbysHorse:

Cook by a long shot….that mariah carey song he did sold it for me. he should get “mariah” tattooed on his back too!

  3. 1dble:

I was personally waiting for a “golly, gee wiz” to add to the “gosh” from David A.

Although I think America will get it wrong once again and give the little guy the win, I’d like to see David Cook take it all.

  4. Miss Pris:

I think I’m cheering for Cook. Although I’m not really an American Idol fan, I did catch a bit of the show last nite. They’re both just OK in my opinion. After the first couple of seasons, I thought the show just got a bit boring….sorry all you American Idol fans.

I’m not much of a baseball fan….but I do love football! Can’t wait for football season to roll around again! I’m hoping you have lots to blog about when that time rolls around! Oh, and my fave team is definitely the DALLAS COWBOYS!!

My plans for this Thursday…..Grey’s Anatomy!!! What else is there? hahaha! Tonites your chance to see what you’ve been missing! Check it out!! And if you need me to “fill you in” on whats going on….just holla!!

Oooh…another episode of “Where In Hawaii Is Ed Sugimoto” I can hardly contain myself….hurry up and post it already!! 0_0

Everybody seemed to be crying last night. Sheesh. Syesha, OK, you know, female-style and all. But, c’mon, crying men! WHAT THE HECK IS WITH mens crying lately? Man up, mens! Eat a steak or something, c’mon. In any case, it’s the battle of Davids! They oughtta re-name next week’s show as Biblical Idol instead. Archuleta’ll probably win — they can shape the guy and make him an international pop-ist. Great golden tonsils, period. Cook . . . his style seems more geared toward appeasing U.S. post-grungists. He’s the gold-standard of luck to me, I mean, I’m not impressed with Cook’s renditions. Too contrived. Good luck and eat a steak, again, fellas.

Rooting for the Oakland A’s, my fav’ team for a while and local guy Kurt Suzuki is doing quite well, you askme. And never mind substance abuse in baseball, what was with Ramirez the other night? THAT kind of behavior is OK, but, mere suspicion of doing something (lemme check the MLB litigation perennial clock . . . OK, yeah, still looks like Clemens hasn’t been arrested and you get the feeling that he will NOT be arrested and that the U.S. baseball team will probably NEED him in Beijing?!? Oh, well, you figure some on the Olympic baseball roster might very well drop out because, well, you know celebrities and earthquakes, they just tend to avoid each other.

Thursday? Drop off one of my watches for servicing @ lunch. Ah, maybe go out for dinner after work. My exciting life, heh.

I cannot wait for another “where the heck is Ed Sugimoto” segment. Where stay?!?

    * hemajang: “Bad dad and all.” That’s funny you mentioned that. The story about him being crazy must really be true if this many people know about it! LOL! And yeah, I like the Mariners too!
    * GumbysHorse: LOL! I like how you tie two of my blogs together nicely. :P
    * 1dble: Hear hear!
    * Miss Pris: For sho! I always play fantasy football evey year, so you’ll hear plenty of monku-ing from me throughout the football season.
    * Chicken Grease: I think A.I. will try to get it right with Cook this year after screwing up with Chris Daughtry a couple years ago. Ooh, I like the A’s too. McGwire used to be my favorite back in the day.

  7. Erin:

    Archuleta all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i’m all for the yankee’s since a-rod is hot! heehee :)

  8. dewi s:

go david cook . . . archuleta is limited in style, he sounds like he’s holding back.

“orange county” angels . . . they need to drop the LA, plus, they’re easy to keep up with thanks to prime ticket.

bring on the next photo big boi!

  9. Ed:

    * Erin: Pshaw. A-Rod. I don’t get it. :P
