Speed Racer Movie Giveaway

May 2nd, 2008 by World Wide Ed

Since it was cars you wanted, it is cars I am going to give you.

I’m Giving Away:
One free movie pass, good for two, to a special advance screening of Speed Racer.
It is for this Sunday, May 4th at 10AM at Consolidated Ward Theaters.

Why am I doing this? For one, it is simply a way to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your community. I hope I can be of enough interest for you to want to stick around for a bit. The second reason is for curiosity’s sake. Let me explain…

As the new kid on the block, I find myself a little “deer-in-the-headlights”-like still. A little baby, if you will, trying to figure out how to walk. I don’t quite know my place around these here parts and would like to reach out and ask for your help. So that I can get a better understanding of what it is you’re looking for, comment this post with some suggestions on what you’d like to see me ramble about. The comment with my mos’ favorite idea(s) will get the movie pass and a swift, er gentle pat on the back. :)

I promise that this is not a bribe or some scheme to get you guys to bump up my readership and comment counts (though it is a pretty dang good idea if I was actually that smart! :P )… I am honestly very interested in knowing what you feel is missing and if I could somehow fill that void.

Ed’s Easy Rules:

  • * I will pick da lucky buggah by Friday or Saturday morning. Sorry to be so vague, I would say Friday, but I may not be near a computer after the Friday night Jason Mraz concert. :)
  • * Once the winner is picked, we’ll have to arrange a time and place for the handing off of the pass, OR, I can leave it here at Oceanic for you to pick up (during normal business hours). Whichever’s easier.
  • * Please be sure you are actually able to attend (or know someone who can) because I’d hate to pick the winner, only to find out that you can’t make it.
  • * Acceptance of the pass means you will not hold me or Oceanic Time Warner Cable liable for anything whatsoever.

The Official Rules (fine print on the pass itself):

  • * The screening is non-transferable. Please arrive early as seating is limited and is not guaranteed. Theater is not responsible for overbooking. No one will be admitted once the film begins. This pass is the property of Warner Bros. Pictures, which reserves the right to refuse, revoke or limit admission at the discretion of an authorized studio and/or theatre representative at any time.
  • * The screening will be monitored for unauthorized recording. By attending you agree not to bring any audio or video recording device into the theatre (audio recording devices for credentialed press accepted) and consent to a physical search of your belongings and person. Any attempted use of recording devices will result in immediate removal from the theatre and forfeiture of such device. Camcording in a theatre is a federal felony. Please allow additional time for heightened security. You can assist us by leaving all nonessential bags at home or in your vehicle. Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. thanks you for your cooperation.

About the Movie:
From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, and producer Joel Silver comes the live action, high octane family adventure “Speed Racer.” Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized - the legendary Rex Racer - whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.

I will only enter if I get a kiss.

Wait, I’m still on the mainland. Doh! *lays face in hands and cries*

If you want to boost your readership, show us a pic of your abs!

  2. Chicken Grease:

Terrific, man! Prizes . . . eh, tha’s HOW, tha’s HOW do blog, too, make giveaway benefit for glorious blogsophere. Thanks.

I will be incapacitated on Sunday as well, so, no worries beef curries from me, the guy who never wins anything anyways, heh.

What’s this “kiss” thing franks’? :) Heh.

  3. Ed:

Shucks franksabunch and Chicken Grease (my two favorite commenters so far! :P )! Hopefully, there’ll be somebody who can make use of this pass…

And yeah Frankie, what’s up with the requests for a kiss and a photo of my abs? I’m starting to question our friendship. ;)

  4. Coconut Willy:

Speed Racer was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid. Racer X, Chim Chim and of course Trixie were my favorite characters.

Did they ever reveal why Racer X was the dark brother of Speed?

I’d love to see the movie but can’t make it at that time.

  5. Ed:

Awww man. Checkin’ in remotely and noticin’ that there’s only 3 real comments. Either this movie is uninteresting to ya’ll or I am. :P I’m actually hoping that it’s either because of the date of the movie (perhaps Sunday mornings are tough?) or because today is Aloha Friday and errone is gone-doz already. Anyway the free pass is still available so whoever wants to see Speed Racer before the general public gimme a holla! :) K!

  6. franksabunch:

Hey, I’m secure in my sexuality (translation: married). Bwahaha!

No worry, beef curry. As I learned from xanga, it takes a while to cultivate a stable audience who follow and comment regularly. Once the “personality” of your blog is established peeps will be more consistent. Well, if you’re a guy. The kawai girls get lots of guys commenting (when they take breaks from World of Warcraft) just to hit on them. (On another note, my xanga comments dropped 40-60% once I got married. What’s up with that?!)

  7. Ed:

Ack… Back from the Mraz concert (which was awesome BTW - pics and blog to come) and noticed that there are still no takers. :( I guess I’m just gonna have to give it another 24 to see if anyone will see this and can actually make it to the movie. *fingers crossed*

  8. JMAW:

I think you should write poetry in pidgin. Nah, nah, just joke, that’s my way at plugging my own site cause I write alot in pidgin.

I think you should just write about what you’re passionate. As a writer myself, I find when I write about what moves me, it comes out better and the audience it’s meant for finds it. Not that I think it best to discard catering to an audience but I just think whatever inspires someone and is their passion i better than writing stuff with no moa heart.

    Shoots.

  9. Elenacs:

Hey Ed, people always want something FREE (like movie passes) or cheap and they show up for exciting events. Look at the turnouts from the American Idol tryouts and Deal-or-No-Deal casting on Oahu. I think you should write about things that people can get for FREE or cheap and upcoming contests or events that are actually available to Hawaii people (some contests are only open to U.S. Mainland residents). Also, interesting usage for everyday items (such as using Aloe to treat cuts) would be very helpful. Believe me, living in Hawaii is great, but it’s sure getting expensive to live in Paradise. Anything that helps save money is a great read!

P.S. I got a Speed Racer ticket from Honolulu Weekly which they mailed it to me on Saturday, but the screening was this Saturday morning! Bummer timing! I Would appreciate the tickets and was ready to go Sunday 5/4/08. I think Honolulu Weekly (they advertised for free tickets) gave me tickets for the wrong day. Please pick me.
    Mahalo!

  10. Ed:

Phew! I was able to give it to someone in time for tomorrow morning’s pre-screening! JMAW was the lucky winner of the Speed Racer pre-screening pass.

    * JMAW: Enjoy my brutha!

    * Elenacs: Sooooo sorry. I picked JMAW cause he was the first and I didn’t think anyone else would make it in time for me to be able to deliver before tomorrow morning’s showing. No worries, though. I’m hoping to do more giveaways like this in the future so stay tuned.

  11. Chicken Grease:

    JMWAW, congrats!

No worries beef curries (heh, how many times have we mentioned that phrase on this thread alone), Ed, regarding the # of posts . . . still starting up and all, yeah? You are building it; they will come!

  12. patrick:

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer… the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
